Icon Tray
The Multi-Purpose Icon Tray Management System

Introduction:
Tired of staring at an existing desktop wallpaper day after day? Why not having
a different wallpaper everyday (how about looking at a different picture from a
folder containing your favorite photos every day.) You can even have Icon Tray switch
to a different photo wallpaper as soon as every 3 seconds. It’s like having a slide
show desktop wallpaper.
Want to display a quick slide show of your favorite photos from your digital cameras
or family albums? Select the 10 seconds interval, sit back, relax, and let Icon
Tray plays the slide show for you on your desktop. Don't confuse this desktop wallpaper
slide show with screen saver slide show. The difference between these two is with
a desktop wallpaper slide show, you can still work on your PC while the slide show
is in progress. On the other hand, a screen saver slide show would stop as soon
as you touch your mouse or keyboard.
Most of us have many internet accounts that require a login name and password to
access. Storing and retrieving these user names and passwords quickly when you need
them can be a challenge. Icon Tray makes life easier for us when it comes to this,
with only 2 mouse clicks, you can launch your frequently visited and/or secured
web sites and supply the login info.
For those of us have PCs that keep waking up from stand by or sleep mode for no
reason, use the feature "Force the PC to sleep" if it is waken up by unexpected
events such as USB devices or LAN. I developed this functionality because my PC
keeps waking up for no reason. Searching through the event viewer some time revealed
that certain events such as external USB devices woke it up, even after I disable
"Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" in those USB root hubs.
This feature forces the PC to go back to sleep it such an event occurs without the
number of seconds you specify (the default is 30.) Sure you can use a screen saver
for this but usually screen saver time out is usually much longer, you wouldn’t
want the screen saver to kick in every 20 or 30 seconds. This is an energy-saving
feature.
For Windows Vista and ealier versions, Icon Tray is a utility that hides rarely used icons in the system tray. Most tray
icons have the options to remove themselves from the tray icons. However, some don’t.
It is a waste or precious screen real estate to host these icons in the tray, therefore
Icon Tray offers you the ability to hide these icons.
The program also can change the order of taskbar windows. Some users have lots of
windows open and therefore cannot see them all. Icon Tray can sort the order of
these open windows for you in the task bar so the most often used one will always
be visible.
Icon Tray displays the current month, day of the month, and date of the week in
the System Tray of the Taskbar. You can select to display all these three items
or any combination in any order you wish (ideal for foreign users who use different
date format than the U.S standard). This comes in handy when you need to know the
date immediately. Sure, you could leave the mouse over the digital clock in the
lower right corner of the Icon Tray, and wait a couple of seconds, but I found it's
not too convenient. It's nice to see the date/time at a glance any given time.
Icon Tray also allows you to quickly launch Explorer from any folder of your choice
or quickly open a DOS window.
